Intercontinental_BR_0077 deriva de um processo de trabalho partilhado por dois autores situados em dois países Lusófonos. A partilha de ficheiros de texto, som e imagem é exclusivamente feita via internet, o que representa uma ideia de comunicação actual e ocidentalizada, entre duas pessoas em lugares distantes do globo.
Filmado inteiramente no Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), em vídeo digital (DV) e comprimido em MP4, é sonorizado e editado em Lisboa (Portugal). Esta obra, enquanto problematiza questões relacionadas com autoria e com o espaço de construção da obra, explora a linha ténue entre o Vídeo, a Fotografia digital. O objecto final resulta na interpretação do olhar e na manipulação de dados, de forma a conseguir criar um novo espaço de representação que existe exclusivamente na percepção do observador.
É um vídeo que escapa às regras elementares de uma realização com preocupações cinematográficas, ou de qualquer edição com pretensões narrativas ou documentais. Esta é uma peça que procura, acima de tudo, reformular estas questões, proporcionar debate e explorar a transdisciplinariedade própria deste suporte, colocando a liberdade do processo no centro da discussão.
Intercontinental_BR_0077 derives from a working process shared by two authors located in two Lusophone countries. Text, sound and image files were shared exclusively via the internet, representing an idea of present day, westernised communication between two people in different parts of the globe.
Filmed entirely in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on digital video (DV) and compressed in MP4, the sound and editing work was carried out in Lisbon (Portugal). This work, while raising issues relating to the authorship of a work and the place of its creation, explores the tenuous line between video and digital photography. The final object results in visual interpretation and data manipulation in such a way as to create a new space of representation exclusively in the observer’s perception.
It is a video that avoids the elementary rules of cinematographically concerned production, or of any editing with narrative or documental intentions. This is a piece that tries, above all, to reformulate these issues, to inspire debate and explore the trans-disciplinary nature of this means of expression, placing the freedom of the process at the centre of the discussion.
SUSANA GUARDADO nasceu em Lisboa (Portugal) em 1971. Tem o curso avançado de artes plásticas do AR.CO, Lisboa, Portugal.
Em 2005, começou a desenvolver trabalhos plásticos na fronteira entre as artes visuais e a música, na Galeria ArtFit (Lisboa) e, desde então, esta tem sido a base conceptual do seu trabalho. Em 2007 foi seleccionada para participar na residência artística “Sítio das Artes”, do Fórum Cultural “O Estado do Mundo”, da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
Em 2008 realizou um performance musical para a inauguração do Museu Berardo, que propunha um diálogo com as obras expostas. No mesmo ano a artista começou a trabalhar com a Galeria 3+1 Arte Contemporânea em Lisboa, apresentando trabalhos de artes visuais em diálogo com a música. Ainda em 2008, iniciou o projecto “Personal Dj”, no âmbito do programa transversal “Mundos Locais: espaços, visibilidades e fluxos transculturais” (apresentado na LAC, em parceria com o Centro Cultural de Lagos, Portugal).
Em 2009, numa estadia no Rio de Janeiro, desenvolveu a pesquisa relacionada com o “Personal Dj” e apresentou publicamente os resultados na Galeria “A Gentil Carioca”.
Após residência artística no Brasil, a artista foi convidada como artista-residente no espaço Carpe Diem-Arte e Pesquisa (Lisboa, Portugal), durante 2009 e 2010, numa perspectiva de intercâmbio Portugal-Brasil.
Ainda em 2009 apresentou, com Miguel Bonneville, uma performance musical no Festival Trama, da Fundação Serralves.
Na sequência do trabalho de pesquisa desenvolvido em 2008-2009, Susana Guardado foi convidada a apresentar o projecto “Personal Dj” numa exposição individual a realizar no Museu da República (Rio de Janeiro, Brasil) em Maio de 2010, com o apoio do programa de residencia artistica da Galeria “A Gentil Carioca”.
SUSANA GUARDADO was born in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1971. She completed the advanced course in visual arts at AR.CO, Lisbon, Portugal.
In 2005, at the Galeria ArtFit in Lisbon, she began to create visual works that lay on the boundary between the visual arts and music, and this has been the conceptual basis of her work ever since. In 2007, she was selected to take part in the “Sítio das Artes” artistic residency as part of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian’s Cultural Forum “O Estado do Mundo” (The State of the World).
In 2008, she gave a musical performance for the inauguration of the Museu Berardo, which invited dialogue with the exhibited works. During the same year, the artist began to work with the Galeria 3+1 Arte Contemporânea in Lisbon, showing works of visual art in dialogue with music. Also in 2008, the “Personal DJ” project began in the context of the cross-disciplinary programme “Mundos Locais: espaços, visibilidades e fluxos transculturais” (Local Worlds: spaces, visibilities and transcultural flows) shown at the LAC in partnership with the Centro Cultural de Lagos, Portugal.
In 2009, during a stay in Rio de Janeiro, she carried out research for the “Personal DJ” project and presented the results publicly in the Galeria “A Gentil Carioca”.
After her artistic residency in Brazil, she was invited to be artist-in-residence in the Carpe Diem - Arte e Pesquisa space (Lisbon, Portugal) during 2009 and 2010, in the context of an exchange between Portugal and Brazil.
Also in 2009, she presented a musical performance with Miguel Bonneville at the Fundação Serralves’s Festival Trama.
Following her research work in 2008-2009, Susana Guardado was invited to present the “Personal DJ” project in a solo exhibition, which will take place at the Museu da República (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in May 2010, with the support of the artistic residency programme of the Galeria "A Gentil Carioca".
MIGUELANGELO VEIGA nasceu em 1974, em Lisboa (Portugal), onde reside e trabalha. Em 1997 estuda em simultâneo Desenho (Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes de Lisboa) e Cinema de Animação num curso promovido pela Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Em 2003, licencia-se em Pintura pela Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, optando por aprofundar conhecimento tanto na disciplina de Desenho, como na de Audiovisuais. Desenvolve desde esse ano investigação no campo das artes visuais, nomeadamente nas vertentes Pintura, Instalação e Vídeo, com a participação em exposições colectivas e individuais.
Em 2007, frequenta o curso de Artes Visuais na MAUMAUS - Escola de Artes Visuais em Lisboa e mais tarde, ainda nesse ano, é um dos seleccionados para a residência artística “Sítio das Artes” inserida no Fórum Cultural “Estado do Mundo”, projecto comemorativo dos 50 anos da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Em 2008, foi um dos 12 alunos do curso de Vídeoarte do Programa Gulbenkian Criatividade e Criação Artística.
A sua obra está presente em várias colecções privadas, destacando-se as da Fundação PLMJ (Lisboa), do Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra e da Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Actualmente é representado em Lisboa pela Galeria Sopro e em Coimbra pela Galeria Sete.
MIGUELANGELO VEIGA was born in 1974 in Lisbon (Portugal), where he lives and works. In 1997, he simultaneously studied Drawing (Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes de Lisboa) and Animated Cinema on a course organised by the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. In 2003, he graduated in Painting from the Faculdade de Belas-Artes of the University of Lisbon, choosing to enhance his knowledge of the disciplines of both Drawing and Audiovisual Studies. Since then, he has carried out research in the field of visual arts, specifically from the perspective of painting, installation and video, participating in group and solo exhibitions.
In 2007, he attended the Visual Arts course at MAUMAUS – Escola de Artes Visuais in Lisbon, and, later that year, he was among those selected for the artistic residency “Sítio das Artes”, which formed part of the Cultural Forum "Estado do Mundo", a project commemorating fifty years of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. In 2008, he was one of twelve pupils who attended the course on Video Art run by the Programa Gulbenkian Criatividade e Criação Artística (Gulbenkian Programme for Artistic Creativity and Creation).
His work is featured in various private collections, including those at the Fundação PLMJ (Lisbon), the Círculo de Artes Plásticas in Coimbra and the Faculdade de Belas-Artes of the University of Lisbon. He is currently represented in Lisbon by the Galeria Sopro and in Coimbra by the Galeria Sete.

FOLLOWING TO: The Phillips Collection and the Katzen Arts Center-American University Museum
The National Portrait Gallery, the Phillips Collection and the American University Museum joined the Cultural Attaches from the 27 European Union Countries in Washington DC for a premiere video project. Each European Union country was invited to submit up to 3 videos from artists working in the video medium to represent their country. One video from each country was selected by a jury for screening in Washington DC. These videos will be screened at The Phillips Collection, the National Portrait Gallery and the American University Museum in June 2010.
